The packaging of these glosses is an upgrade of that of the Color sensational glosses…same rectangular packaging but bulkier, same sponge tip applicator but longer and more slanted, and yes, same plain tube with no details on it once the plastic wrapper is peeled off! The shade name is written in minuscule lettering at the bottom of the tube, but it otherwise could easily be mistaken for one of those no-brand low quality lipglosses that you find in local markets. But once you apply it, there’s no chance of mistaking it for a low quality product…Maybelline has come out with a solid winner.
The gloss is very thick, almost like a liquid lipstick. It has a citrusy fragrance that reminds me strongly of the orange-flavoured chews we used to get as kids! The scent is not exactly subtle so you might want to check if you are comfortable with it. It is very pigmented for a lipgloss and goes on semi-opaque in a single swipe. You can layer it on for more coverage, but with more than one layer you get that ‘something on my lips’ feeling. With one layer though, it is absolutely lightweight. And oh, it is completely non-sticky! They weren’t kidding when they named it ‘high-shine’ either…it gives a super-glossy look and actually makes your lips look a tiny bit plumper. It is quite moisturising as well…it softens dry skin on the lips almost like a lip balm. The lasting power, however, is not too great…on me the colour lasts only about two hours max. The glossy feel remains for another hour or two provided I don’t eat or drink anything. It vanishes very easily with meals. The bolder colours might last a bit longer.
Mirrored Mauve is a beautiful dusty pink with a hint of mauve. It would work great for all skintones. I initially thought this colour would wash me out (I have medium to dusky skin), but when I tried it on, I loved how pretty it looked. I am more of a fan of long lasting lipsticks and stains and have somewhat outgrown glossy finishes, but I find myself using this gloss almost every time I go out these days. It looks so good with simple black lined eyes and a hint of pink blush!
